Pellew was an English Naval officer who took part in Burgoyne's expedition in the American Revolution (1777);, captured the first frigate taken in war with France (1793); served as rear admiral (1804) and member of Parliament (1804-1809); destroyed Dutch Fleet off java (1811); commanded Anglo-Dutch fleet that deeated the Algerian fleet (1816).
