Notes: First Urry Edition features original full leather binding (16" x 10") with embossed design on cover and gilt lettering along spine. Moderate rubbing along edges. Binding and hinges secure; contents clean and unmarked; age appropriate toning; warped front board. Marbled endpapers. Engraved portrait of Urry and b/w engravings and decorations scattered throughout text. Approximately 750 pages of text. Urry's work is the first since 1534 to attempt to assemble Chaucer's complete works and to offer commentary on the text. Urry also added three stories published for first time: The Coke's Tale of Gamelyn, The merchant's Second Tale and the Adventures of the Pardoner and Tapster at the Inn at Canterbury. Portrait of Chaucer missing. The leather cover has a seal from the library of Dublin embossed with gilt on the cover. The book looks like it had been rebound, possibly keeping the original leather on the spine. Old seller notes in pencil on end paper that has some browning says "Copy of xxx in Trinity Library Dublin. 17.10.0" Additional photos available upon request.
