Notes: One of a handful of non-fiction works by the author, these volumes are a collected edition of articles previously published in various magazines from 1874 to 1880. Contents of Vol. I (226 pp) include: Victor Hugo's Romances; So Aspects of Robert Burns; Walt Whitman; Henry David Thoreau; and Yoshida-Torajiro; Volume II (246pp) include: Francois Villon; Charles of Orleans; Samuel Pepys; and John Knox and his relations to Women. Volumes are bound in maroon cloth boards with gilt lettering and engraving by TBH on the covers and spines. Binding tight and square with some edge and corner wear; contents clean and unmarked except for owner's bookplate on inside cover. Each volume has gilt top edge and red marker ribbon.
