Stanley was an English Theologian who served as Canon of Canterbury (1851) and Dean of Westminster (1864-1881), when letter written. He wrote extensively on ecclesistical history and biographies. Letter signed on Deanery, Westminster stationery. Letter contains exensive commentary on religious matters including comments on the Episcopal Church.
