Notes: Original hand written two page letter from Field Marshal Frederick Sleigh Roberts (1832-1914) sent to Mr. Wallalston regarding the "Ladies Day" of Northbroke Society. Field Marshall Roberts was one of the most successful British military commanders of his time who led British Forces during the last year of the Second Boer War and served as its last Commander-in-Chief of the Forces. As one of Britain's leading military figures, he became a symbol for the British Army and in later life became an influential proponent of stronger defense in response to the increasing threat that the German Empire posed to Britain in the lead up to the First World War.
