How We Operate:
What sets Imperial Books apart  from the competition is that a qualified partner  handles every aspect of the business including personally giving each item a thorough inspection before it is approved for sale and  making sure that the items is described accurately and priced fairly.  

Each item is handled carefully and preserved in optimal climate controlled  conditions at our own Warehouse space.  Any needed repairs are done under the guidance of a professional bookbinder and conservator.

Upon receipt of an order, Imperial Books will fill it promptly and properly utilizing packaging needed to assure that it arrives in the same condition as sent.  And because we control the entire posting  process and physical  inventory, it is very rare that an item is not available for shipment when ordered.  However, because we sell across multiple on-line outlets, it is possible that an item is sold on one platform before it is removed it from the others.  In that case, the second buyer is notified immediately and any monies paid are promptly refunded. 

We have an  easy payment and checkout process.

Payments are processed through PayPal. You do not have to have a PayPal account in order to checkout.  PayPal is only the "cashier" and simply processes the payment.

Payment can be made using a credit card, debit card, check or PayPal funds.

To checkout and have your order and payment processed, click on "Add to Shopping Cart" and "Proceed to Checkout" . After you have clicked to "Calculate Delivery Fees" you will be asked for your Zip code, and if you want media mail,  Priority mail, insurance, etc. After responding to that, you will be shown the total cost of the item with the shipping cost.

Next, you will need to give your shipping address, e-mail (so order confirmation can be sent, don’t worry, you will be sent e-mails only about the order). When finished, click to "Place Order".

When asked to select payment method, click on "PayPal" even if you are paying by credit or debit card without a PayPal account. This is only telling the system that it is okay to process the payment through the PayPal cashier.

On the next screen (on, you will be given the choice  either to
 "Pay with my PayPal account" (sign in and pay with Paypal)
or to "Pay with a Debit Card or Credit Card".  You will be asked to provide your credit card information and complete the transaction.

After the transaction is complete, you will receive an order confirmation e-mail.


Books sold for $7 and over  are wrapped in bubble wrap, padded with packing paper and  boxed 90% of the time in a new box. Books sold for under $7 are shipped in a  bubble mailer.   Generally, we do not recommend shipping by International Priority mail because it does not, from our experience, usually hasten the arrival.

Our objective is to ship all orders within two business days of receiving notice that payment has been cleared.

United States Shipping is $4 for Media Mail, and $11 for Priority Mail unless it is an oversized book. For shipments within the U.S. of books, magazines and periodicals we ship by Media Mall unless otherwise instructed by purchaser. It is the least expensive method of shipping these items domestically but also the slowest. Generally, it takes from 3 to 7 days for the package to arrive but can take, on occasion, up to two weeks or longer particularly if the surface shipping is by boat.  

If the purchaser pays to have these items shipped by priority mail, we will proceed as instructed. Priority mail is more expensive but it generally takes only two to three business days  from the date of mailing for the shipment to be delivered.

International orders generally take 7 to14 days if shipped International First Class  and 5 to 10 days if shipped Global Priority Mail.   However, average delivery times vary by country and ultimately are out of either the seller’s or buyer’s control. 

Imperial Books does not charge tax for books mailed to locations out of the State of Wisconsin.  However, Imperial Books will assess a 5% sales tax on all items delivered within the State of Wisconsin unless the purchaser provides proof of exemption.

The buyer assumes all risks once package has been mailed.  Unless buyer elects to insure the package, Imperial Books will not issue a refund for non-delivery.  See below for insurance options.

Local Pickup: Local pickup available at our West Allis, WI warehouse. Just indicate the choice Local pickup instead of Media Mail/ Priority mail when you check out. No charge for shipping in the case of local pick up. Please pay online, and then we will contact you when the book is ready for pick up. (usually the next day) Pickup hours are weekday afternoons 12pm - 5pm.


We recommend insurance. We insure all packages through  the US Postal Service.  The cost of insurance is based on the combined price of your item(s) and shipping charge. Insurance covers both the cost of the item and the shipping and handling cost in the event of damage or loss in transit. Please contact us immediately if you need to file a claim on your insured order; there is a limited window of time that claims can be filed.

Please note: We do not issue refunds for packages that have not been delivered or damaged in transit without insurance coverage. If the Delivery Confirmation data on the US Postal Service's web site shows that the item has indeed been delivered to the address on the order, no claim for non-delivery will be filed. If your item has been reported as delivered and you cannot find it, we recommend checking with family members or roommates to see if they picked it up for you, neighbors, and/or building managers. Also look in unusual delivery places - between the front door and a storm door, next to a step, etc. If a box is too big to fit in a mail box, carriers sometimes deliver the item to an alternate location in or around your residence.

Tracking is included for books worth $7 and over, and you will be sent the tracking number by email after the book has been sent through the USPS.

Imperial Books has mailed over 1,000 books through the postal service and the only issue related to non-delivery was when the purchaser provided the wrong address. But that is no guarantee that your package will be safely delivered.
