Notes: Set of 7 Thomas Hardy books. Good to very good red boards with gilt lettering along spine. Binding and hinges tight and square; contents clean and unmarked except for previous owner's initials on FFEP of "Hands". Each with a preface by the author, dated 1895, and tissue-guarded sepia-toned frontis image of a Wessex scene. Part of the Harper & Brothers Thin Paper Edition of Books by Thomas Hardy series. --- In textured burgundy cloth-covered boards with elaborate gilt-stamped spine decorations and titling; top edge gilt. No dust jackets. Each volume 7x5x1". All boards have edge wear, there is chipping on spines on two volumes. "The Well-Beloved" volume is slightly cocked. Volumes are: The Well-Beloved, The Mayor of Casterbridge, Desperate Remidies, A Group of Noble Dames, The Trumpet-Major, Jude the Obscure, and The Hand of Ethelberta.
